Lael Gray responds to Joe Dunn criticisms
In a message to supporters, Asheville City Council candidate Lael Gray responded to criticisms written by former Asheville City Council member Joe Dunn in the Asheville Citizen-Times:
I guess that we are doing something right! I got my first smear in the Asheville Citizen-Times the other day. A truly bizarre fabrication was written by Joe Dunn, a former right-wing city councilman and dear friend of Carl Mumpower.
Dunn writes, “Candidate Lael Gray has stated that automobiles need to be eliminated from city streets."
This, of course, is a complete distortion. I have said at every public appearance that I envision an Asheville where you don't need to own a car to get where you want to go. And I stand behind that. Transportation options serve environmental justice, social justice, and economic justice.
After I stopped laughing about Mr. Dunn’s comments, I realized that some voters are going to believe his lie and propagate it. Please help me fight back.
Its disappointing that some in our community don’t want to have an honest discussion about the challenges that face us and our responsibly to future generations. But my campaign will continue to be about the three core values that shape everything that I do: environment, equality, education. Let's have an honest, adult conversation.
