MedWest-Haywood opens new cardiac catheterization lab
From the press release:
CLYDE, NC -- MedWest Health System has just opened a newly renovated cardiac catheterization lab on the MedWest-Haywood campus.
The facility features state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment that produces a wide range of detailed images and visualizations of the anatomy, while minimizing X-ray exposure for patients and staff.
“Our new lab offers the latest in diagnostic tools for our patients and physicians,” said Teresa Reynolds, chief operating officer for MedWest. “It is the only technology of its kind west of Asheville.”
A ribbon-cutting and open house will be held at 4 p.m. July 27 in the lab, located on the first floor of MedWest-Haywood. A reception follows in the cafeteria.
The new lab is a part of MedWest’s cardiology program, which includes a full range of diagnostic and rehabilitation services for the heart.
“With the new system, cardiologists can see clear images of the heart, and there is less radiation for patients,” said Dr. David Peterson with Western Carolina Cardiology. “We are able to read the images at several stations throughout the hospital, decreasing wait times for results,” he said.
MedWest Health System provides healthcare for the people of western North Carolina at MedWest-Harris, MedWest-Haywood and MedWest-Swain hospitals, and the outpatient facility MedWest-Franklin. MedWest employs 2,100 people in the mountains and is locally governed by a 14-member board. MedWest is affiliated with Carolinas HealthCare System.
