Saul Chase running for Asheville City Council
Full announcement below:

Asheville, July 7, 2011—Saul Chase filed for election to the Asheville City Council on Thursday, July 7. Chase says he will concentrate on improving Asheville's streets and sidewalks to make
Asheville safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists and more prosperous for local businesses. Chase will hold a press conference at the West Asheville Public Library Conference Room on July 15 at 10:30 a.m., where he will present proposals for improving the substandard conditions of Asheville’s streets and sidewalks.

Chase, 59, is a retired North Carolina public school teacher and administrator. He founded NC Test Prep, which specializes in SAT preparation. He lives near downtown Asheville with his wife, writer Nan Chase. They have been homeowners in Asheville since 2003

Saul Chase served for eight years on the Boone, N.C., Town Council during the 1980’s and 1990’s, His leadership produced sidewalk and greenway improvements, traffic management initiatives, recycling expansion, and water and sewer upgrades.

“My wife and I love living in Asheville. We built our home here and have grandchildren here,” Chase said. “But the condition of our public infrastructure is unacceptable. Asheville citizens cannot in good conscience let Asheville’s streets and sidewalks continue to deteriorate. Our great city deserves better than that.”

I know Saul Chase and his wife Nan well from their decades in Boone. He served as a Boone town councilman for a number of years during which I worked with him on one particular project, the Boone Greenways. I found Saul and enthusiastic and capable supporter of our greeway system, of which we are quite proud.

Being a person who is committed to protecting our beautiful natural environment as I am, Saul was also an ally with whom I worked on several other issues. He was a dependable partner on environmental and beautification issues, and I would expect him to be so should he be elected in Asheville. I see Saul’s departure from Boone as a loss for us, but am delighted he is willing to help Asheville in similar ways as he did here—Ashvillians would be fortunate to have Saul in the leadership of you community.I strongly support his run for the Asheville City Council.
