WNC man plans to skydive — without legs

With the help and training of a few creative skydiving experts at the Appalachian Amusement Center in Maggie Valley, N.C., Nichols is close to becoming one of only a handful of paraplegics to skydive alone.
After losing the use of his legs in a motorcycle accident in 2005, Nichols vowed to live his life as if he hadn't. He always intended to learn to skydive solo, and becoming paraplegic was no excuse to give that up. His daredevil roots run deeper than just a basic desire to beat the odds. By age 4, Nichols said, his mother found him scaling a 100-foot antenna in his family's backyard just to see the view.
"I'm a guy who needs adrenaline," said Nichols, 30. ...
