Yet another pedestrian struck by a vehicle in downtown Asheville

From the Asheville Citizen-Times:

“City police are investigating an accident involving a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

The incident was reported about 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Otis Street and Battery Park Avenue in the downtown.

A man was walking across the street with two other people and was struck by a Subaru Outback. Heavy rain was falling at the time.

Officers on the scene did not immediately release the name of the victim, who was transported to Mission Hospital. His injuries did not appear life-threatening.

The driver’s name also was not released at the scene.

The accident happened in front of the federal building and briefly blocked traffic on Otis Street.”

These accidents seem to be happening more frequently these days. A pedestrian was struck several months ago at the intersection of Lexington Ave and Patton, another more recently on College Street. The woman struck on College Street was in a pedestrian crosswalk on an area of the roadway where the posted speed limit is 20 miles per hour. Another man was fatally struck by a vehicle crossing Broadway on Thanksgiving Day.
