Air quality alert: WNC air deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups (orange) (UPDATED)
UPDATE: As of 5 p.m. the alert has been rescinded. "Our hourly fine particulate pollution monitor in Buncombe County is showing improved conditions at this time. We are now in the code GREEN range. No special precautions are suggested," according to the WNC Regional Air Quality Agency.

WNC is currently experiencing code ORANGE air quality conditions in the valleys of Asheville and Western North Carolina, according to the N.C. Division of Air Quality. People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should limit prolonged exertion. This also means that today is a no burning day, according to Ashley Featherstone of the WNC Regional Air Quality Agency.
