APD seeks help in hit and run case
Full announcement from the Asheville Police Department:
On September 17, 2012 at 2258 hrs. Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Riverside Dr. near the Craven St Bridge. The driver of the vehicle called 911 to report the crash, advising responding officers that he was traveling north on Riverside Dr, and drove around a blind curve in the roadway. He further advised that he saw what at first appeared to him as a bag of trash or a tarp in the middle of the roadway. As he got closer he advised that what he first thought was a bag of trash to be a human body. The driver advised that he saw the head of the body close to the double yellow lines, so he turned to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting the body. He stated that he felt his left wheels drive over what he imagine to be the legs of the body. The pedestrian was later identified as Joshua D. Carroll.
After examining all the evidence it is apparent that another vehicle struck Mr. Carroll and left the scene just prior to his legs being run over.
Mr. Carroll was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries to his head and legs. Mr. Carroll has since been discharged from Mission Hospital and transfer to Thoms Rehab for further treatment.
Investigating officers are attempting to locate anyone with further information on the Hit and Run Vehicle and its driver. There should be damage to the front grill, hood, and/or windshield.
