UPDATE: Baby goat found in West Asheville dumpster; Humane Society, APD seek info
UPDATE: WLOS reported tonight, Aug. 15, that the baby goat found in a West Asheville dumpster died.

Earlier today:
FROM THE ASHEVILLE HUMANE SOCIETY:

A baby boy goat was found earlier this afternoon not in a field of clover but a garbage dumpster in West Asheville. Suffering from undetermined injuries, the baby boy goat estimated at 2 months of age was clinging to life when Officers Zach McTaggert and Sue McMullen from Asheville City Animal Services transported the baby goat to the Buncombe County Animal Shelter.

At time of this release at 4:30 p.m., the baby goat is in critical condition at the Appalachian Animal Hospital in Weaverville where two veterinarians are working to save his life. It is unknown if he will survive.

"We are horrified and saddened that anyone could inflict such suffering on a helpless animal," said Katherine Shenar, President/CEO of Asheville Humane Society. "An anonymous donor has made it possible for Asheville Humane Society to offer a $1,000 Reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this hideous attack of cruelty."

This case is currently under investigation by City of Asheville Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the City of Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110 or the Buncombe County Crime Stoppers (828) 255-5050. More information will be released as it becomes available.
