Blue Ridge Broadcasting to sell WFGW–AM
Here's the press release from Blue Ridge Broadcasting:
ASHEVILLE, N.C, June 12, 2012 – Blue Ridge Broadcasting, Inc. (BRB) of Asheville, N.C., has entered an agreement with Humberto Martinez and Margarita del Rosario Toth of Charlotte, N.C., to sell WFGW-AM, Black Mountain, N.C., pending approval of the Federal Communications Commission.
The private financial investment of broadcaster and lay pastor Martinez, and wife Toth, comes as WFGW-AM celebrates 50 years of broadcasting to western N.C.
“While we were founded with the purchase of WFGW-AM in 1962, our focus over the past several years has been on our ministry through our FM stations and online presence. BRB continues to reach audiences in areas of seven states through 106.9 (WMIT-FM) and 106.7 (WFGW-FM),” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of BRB. “We are excited about this agreement and wish Pastor Martinez and his wife the very best.”
BRB owns and operates two other stations. BRB’s flagship station, 106.9 The Light (WMIT-FM), Black Mountain, N.C., serves Asheville, Charlotte, Hickory, Greenville/Spartanburg, and the Tri-Cities of Va. and Tenn. Purchased in 1963, 106.9 The Light has the 12th largest FM coverage area in the U.S. Earlier this year BRB acquired WFGW-FM 106.7 The Light (licensed in Norris, Tenn.), which serves metro Knoxville.
