Bountiful corn crop provides county with healthy harvest
From the Hendersonville Times-News:
By Nathaniel Axtell
Times-News Staff Writer

While drought withered fields in the Midwest this summer, Henderson County's corn farmers are reaping the benefits of good growing conditions and even better prices for their bushels this fall.

"Corn prices are some of the highest we've seen and that's just indicative of supply and demand," said Marvin Owings, director of the Henderson County Cooperative Extension office. "If you're a corn grower, you're going to do well this year, at least in our area."

As corn shriveled on the stalk in Iowa and Illinois, Western North Carolina benefited from what local grain corn farmer Jason Davis called "perfect rain at the perfect time," even though some upland corn crops saw drought and some bottomlands got too wet.
