Charlotte-based Air National Guard plane downed in S. Dakota wildfire UPDATED
UPDATE: WLOS reports that four of six Charlotte-based Air National Guards members died in a Sunday, July 1, crash in South Dakota where crews are fighting wildfires.

UPDATE: The Charlotte Observer reports that at least one crew member is dead and three survivors were taken to a nearby hospital: "While the Air Force has declined to report on the status of the crew, relatives of a Mooresville man say he was killed in the crash."

And N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue released a statement, extended her "deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the North Carolina National Guardsmen who lost their lives last night fighting wildfires in South Dakota, and our prayers are with those who were injured."

Lt. Col. Rose Dunlap of the 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte confirmed Monday that six crew members were aboard the C-130, but said she could not yet provide any information about their condition.
