Asheville, NC – The City of Asheville Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is launching its second Mobile Movie Series at Carrier Park. Easel Rider, Asheville’s Mobile Art Lab, will be featuring an art documentary film series on Fridays beginning August 17, 2012. The non-rated films are free and open to the public. All showings are shine only, there are no rain dates. All the films will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Carrier Park on the following dates:

Aug 17th- Herb and Dorothy
Tells the extraordinary story of Herbert Vogel, a postal clerk, and Dorothy Vogel, a librarian, who managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history with very modest means.

Sept 7th- Chuck Close
An astounding portrait of one of the world's leading contemporary painters. Close photographs his subjects, blows up the image to gigantic proportions, divides it into a detailed grid and then uses a complex set of colors and
patterning to reconstruct each face.

Sept 21st- The Universe of Keith Haring
World-renowned artist Keith Haring whose mantra was that "Art is for everyone!" The film is a thorough and intimate exploration of the background and career of one of the most popular and significant artists of the 20th century.

Oct 5th- Beautiful Losers/Waste Land (double feature)
“Beautiful Losers” celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation. In the early 1990s a loose-knit group of like-minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery.

“Waste Land” follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump. There he photographs an eclectic band of "catadores," self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. They recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the people as they begin to re-imagine their lives.
