Different Strokes performs “Romeo Loves Juliet,” a new take on Shakespeare’s classic
"In 'Romeo Loves Juliet,' the titular star-crossed lovers are both women, and the genders of several other characters have been flipped as well," says a press release for upcoming performance by Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective. "However, aside from the changing of a few pronouns, Shakespeare’s script has been kept intact, lending the ageless power of his original verse to a new interpretation of the tale."

“Romeo Loves Juliet: A Modern Love Story” features Joseph Barcia, Mandy Bean, Lochlan Belford, Dwight Chiles, Robert Edwards, Patrick Hackney, Dahlia Legault, Darren Marshall, Eric Martinez, Hannah Rechtschaffen, Trinity Smith and Jason Williams. Scott Bean directs and Rachel McCrain stage manages.

The show runs November 8-17 at the BeBe Theatre (20 Commerce St.). Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors when purchased in advance at http://www.differentstrokesavl.com; $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors at the door. A portion of the production’s proceeds will benefit the Campaign for Southern Equality.
