Today Rep. Patsy Keever spoke out on the need to clean up the corruption in Washington and to eliminate the impact of big money on our political system.

“The primary concern we’re hearing from folks across the 10th Congressional District is that there is too much money in politics these days,” said Patsy Keever.

“My opponent Patrick McHenry has accepted more than $500,000 from Political Action Committees during 2012,” said Keever. “I believe that the amount of money in campaigns needs to be dramatically reduced and the power of PACs restricted. While we intend to raise the money necessary to get our message out, our primary focus will be on finding common ground among voters and bringing people together to deal with the issues that confront us.”

Patsy Keever will host Money in Politics breakfasts this week with voters throughout the 10th Congressional District, including Gastonia, Denver, Shelby and Tryon.

Policy Difference — Money in Politics
During this election cycle, PACs have contributed more than $500,000 to McHenry’s campaign, with Koch Industries’, Goldman Sachs’ and Morgan Stanley’s PACs contributing $10,000 each. Patsy Keever thinks this flood of money is turning voters off and threatening democracy. To date, she has received an average donation of $131 from more than 2,500 people, ranging in size from $1 to $2,500. If you want someone who represents the big banks and Wall Street, then vote for Patrick McHenry. If you want someone who will fight for Main Street, then vote for Patsy Keever.
