Gov. Perdue orders flags flown at half mast Wednesday for fallen state trooper
From the office of Gov. Bev Perdue:

Gov. Bev Perdue has ordered that North Carolina flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, September 12, at the State Capital, State Highway Patrol offices and state facilities in Nash County in tribute to Trooper B. Gene DeMuth of Rocky Mount, who was killed Saturday in the line of duty. Other communities wishing to lower the state flag as a sign of respect may do so.

Trooper DeMuth, 42, was struck and killed by a suspect’s vehicle while he was positioning stop sticks to halt a pursuit. Visitation for the 12-year veteran of the State Highway Patrol will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Englewood Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. The funeral will follow there at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
