Gregg Jensen starts job as WWNC host/news director
Here's the message from Gregg Jensen, who's the new host of The Morning Report and the news director of News Radio 570 WWNC. Today, Nov. 26, is his first day on the job at Clear Channel Asheville, and he posted this blog introducing himself, originally published on the WWNC website. He's replacing Jerri Jameson, who stepped down last month after working for more than a decade at the local station in order to take a position with Mission Hospital.

Hello, Asheville and Hello to all of Western North Carolina!

My name is Gregg Jensen, I'm the new guy in town, and I am proud and pleased to be able to host The Morning Report on News Radio 570 WWNC. I'll also be serving as News Director for WWNC and look forward to learning the ways and means of the community in an interest to better serve you with information each and every morning. As we get acquainted, please feel free to send an email keeping me in the loop on newsworthy items of note, or just to say Hi.

A bit about me: I'm a radio news broadcaster by trade, and by heritage. My father was behind the microphone as far back the 2nd World War. He read the bulletin when the US dropped the A Bomb on Hiroshima. The biggest story I ever covered on air was in NYC on Sept 11, 2001. There are many others as well. 20 years worth. I've lived in 7 states, travelled through 47, and have spent most of my radio career in Boston and New York. In Boston, I worked for WBZ AM and in New York, for WCBS AM & FM and 1010 WINS... all news stations. I was born in the tiny town of Dover, Massachusets, not far from Boston. Dover is a rural New England community and I grew up working farms. Horses, sheep, chickens and vegetables, not necessarily in that order. In addition to my radio experience, I hold my own as a machine operator, priding myself on the fact I can get a tractor across a pretty steep slope. I'm also an avid home gardener and the dream is to have a 10 acre farm some day soon. Considering I'm from the frozen Northeast, if we receive snow only on Christmas Eve in Carolina, that's just fine by me.

Apart from the career side of life, I enjoy my new home in the mountains and look forward to exploring the countryside, trout streams and the fantastic assortment of culture Asheville has to offer. I love blues, bluegrass, and good old rock 'n' roll, and am overwhelmed at the variety of live music this area presents. I have frequented this part of the country ever since the mid-1980's and knew then it would be the perfect spot to settle. That's exactly what I've done.

I can't wait to be part of the community; let's stay in touch as we move along!

Gregg Jensen
