Black Mountain, NC—Aviva Romm, MD, herbalist, midwife will be the Special Guest Speaker at the Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference.The 8th annual event, dedicated to the Wise Woman Tradition (earth-based healing, local plants, and deep nourishment) takes place October 12-14 at Lake Eden in scenic Black Mountain, NC.

Dr. Romm is a highly respected expert in botanical medicine, childbirth, and women’s and children’s health. She practiced as a homebirth midwife and herbalist for over 20 years before becoming a Yale-trained MD. She is the author of the now classic books, The Natural Pregnancy Book and Naturally Healthy Babies and Children.

Aviva combines her skills as a physician, midwife, and herbalist to offer insightful clinical care, education, writing, and consulting on general health, pregnancy and birth, women’s health, women’s and pediatric botanical medicine, health and ecology, and natural living. Aviva is also the mother of four spectacular, grown-up children.

At the conference she will be offering the following classes:
Pediatric Botanical Medicine—Taking Care of the Next Generations (Intensive)
Challenging Conditions in Women’s Primary Care: Natural approaches in the treatment of fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome.
Special Guest Speech—Walking in Two Worlds: From Midwife-Herbalist to MD. This talk is about the journey, the reasons for it, and what she’s learned, using the metaphor of the heroine’s journey. Her perspective on how to relate to western medicine in a safe and useful way, and why she says “All I ever needed to know I learned in the garden."
