Press release

from UNC Asheville News Seervices

Vocalist Stephanie Morgan and keyboard artist Chuck Lichtenberger of Stephanie’s Id will join UNC Asheville’s Percussion Ensemble as part of a concert which will also feature the UNC Asheville String Quartet. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 in Lipinsky Auditorium.

The concert will open with a performance of Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 20, No. 2, by the UNC Asheville String Quartet under direction of Charles McKnight, associate professor of music. The Quartet features Erin Keenan, violin; Rebecca Flynt, violin; Heather McIalwain, viola; and Luida Svelova, cello.

After intermission, Morgan, Lichtenberger, and Stephanie’s Id percussionist Matthew Richmond will join the UNC Asheville Percussion Ensemble for three works by Morgan, arranged by Richmond. Richmond, lecturer in music at UNC Asheville and director of the Percussion Ensemble, provides the link between the university and Stephanie’s Id, the Asheville-based alternative band which has gained a national following. Lichtenberger is also a former UNC Asheville student.

The UNC Asheville Percussion Ensemble will also perform works by Chopin, jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, and others. The ensemble features a vast array of instruments, including vibes and others which carry melody and harmony as well as rhythm. Sunset Appleton, Miklos Billings, Candice Boling, Braethun Bharathae-Lane, Silas Durocher, Adam Freshcorn, Anna Goodman, Austin Harris, Josh Houde, Homer Jenkins, Sara Kennedy, Richard Kramer, John Lacy, Luis Laverde, Damian Lopez de Jesus, Tommy Moore, Mark Morris, Grace Phillips, John Spurlock, and David Wilson comprise the ensemble.

Admission is $5 at the door; students are admitted free. For more information, call the UNC Asheville Music Department at 828/251-6432.
