League of Women Voters hosts Monday series of local candidate forums
Press release from the League of Women Voters:

The League of Women Voters of Asheville and Buncombe County will hold its first fall candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24 at Ferguson Auditorium on the AB Tech campus, to offer voters a chance to see and hear candidates for Buncombe County Commission Chair and for the county Board of Education. In addition, county-wide candidates for Register of Deeds and the Soil & Water Conservation District, as well as State Senate candidates, have been invited to set up information tables for a “Meet & Greet” before the forum.

The forum will be moderated by Jerri Jameson, News Director for Clear Channel Asheville and is cosponsored by News Radio 570 WWNC, 880 The Revolution, The Urban News, The Mountain Xpress, and Carolina Public Press.

The League will also host three more Monday-night forums during the month of October, one forum for each County Commission/NC House district (see schedule below). Because of legislative redistricting in 2011, some residents are no longer in the same districts as in previous elections. Three newly created Buncombe County Commission districts (Districts 1, 2, and 3) correspond directly with Buncombe County’s three recently redrawn state House districts (NC House 114, 115, and 116). Voters who are not certain which districts they are in can visit the League’s one-stop election information website, at Vote411.org, where by typing in their street address they can register to vote and see who will be on their ballot this fall.

For more information about the League of Women Voters and its fall forums, visit the League website at ablwv.org or call 828-258-8223.
