McGrady scores high in effectiveness rankings
Here's the press release from the office of Chuck McGrady:

McGrady Scores High in Effectiveness Rankings

In a just-released survey on the effectiveness of each member of the NC General Assembly, Representative Chuck McGrady, serving his first term in the North Carolina House of Representatives, scored in the top 50% of all house members. He was one of only six freshman representatives to accomplish this. Of the 120 house members, McGrady ranked 53

The survey conducted by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research is based on surveys sent to legislators, registered lobbyists based in North Carolina and capital news correspondents, as well as on rankings of attendance and roll call voting participation compiled from the General Assembly’s official records.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the rankings, particularly being ranked higher than many more experienced legislators. I knew I had a productive first year, and I'm glad others are viewing it the same way." McGrady said.

According to Ran Coble, Executive Director of the NC Center for Public Policy Research, a report about state legislative rankings in Governing magazine, published by Congressional Quarterly, Inc. says, “It is hard to deny that the ratings when done responsibly, serve a legitimate public purpose…The ratings issued by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research are perhaps the most straightforward and most widely respected.”

From the authors of the survey, http://www.nccppr.org/drupal/ :

“The effectiveness rankings are based on responses to surveys from the legislators themselves, from registered lobbyists, and from the capital news media who cover state government.”

From a comment on http://www.bluenc.com :

“Hahahahahahahaha.
Let’s see. A thousand registered lobbyists, a s***load of elected officials slopping at the public trough, and the 2 1/2 reporters who cover state government.”
