Asheville, NC – On Friday, September 14th, 2012 friends and supporters of Meals On Wheels of Asheville & Buncombe County will gather at The Venue in downtown Asheville to bid on a variety of items and packages to help raise money to feed the homebound elderly of our community.

“It’s a party with a purpose! The majority of our funding comes from private donations and fundraisers like Plate Expectations. The money raised goes directly towards feeding seniors here in Buncombe County who need help to continue living independently and with dignity in their own homes. We’re working to end hunger in our own backyard!” said Terri Bowman, Development Director for Meals On Wheels.

This is the 9th year for the annual fundraiser which has enjoyed strong support from the Asheville community and raised over $550,000 for Meals On Wheels.

Meals On Wheels is an independent local non-profit organization that provides food and other life-enhancing services to homebound seniors throughout Buncombe County. The agency currently feeds nearly 500 seniors each weekday with the help of over 300 volunteers.

The 2012 Plate Expectations Charity Auction will kick off at 6PM and run until 10PM. There will be a wide selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beer and wine and a cash bar.
