Mills River Presbyterian series: “Close encounters of the spiritual kind” (Christian mystics)
from Mills River Presbyterian Church
Mills River Presbyterian Church will host a series of two one-hour informative study classes in December entitled “Close Encounters of the Christian Kind: Christian Mystics.” The sessions are free and all adults in the Asheville and Hendersonville areas are invited to participate from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on December 3 and 10, 2012.
“We developed this enticing two-part class to explore the lives of two Medieval mystics, Hildegarde von Bingen and Thomas a Kempis,” says Randall Boggs, pastor at Mills River Presbyterian Church. “Von Bingen is one of the most remarkable women of the Middle Ages. She was a nun, mystic and composer whose music still inspires us today. We’ll focus on her life and music during our Monday, December 3rd session.
“Then, on Monday December 10th we’ll get to know Thomas a Kempis, whose devotional ‘The Imitation of Christ’ is still widely read today and instructs people on how to love God. He was a German priest, a monk and a writer of sermons, hymns and stories on the lives of saints.”
No registration is needed for the free, casual classes. Each class and discussion is independent of the other, so it’s not imperative to attend both sessions.
The one-hour classes begin at 6:00pm on each date in the Fellowship Hall of Mills River Presbyterian Church, located at 10 Presbyterian Church Road in Mills River (off of School House Road). For more information call the church office at 828-891-7101.
