Nominations sought for local “Living Treasures”
Here's the press release:

The Selection Committee of Asheville Living Treasures is pleased to announce that nominations for Living Treasures from the City of Asheville, and ALL of Buncombe County will be accepted starting June 15, 2012 through August 15, 2012, the deadline for submittals.

Nominations received by the deadline will be considered for induction as an Asheville Living Treasure in the fall. Selected Living Treasures will have an in depth interview that will be both recorded and transcribed. Photographs and the oral histories gathered from the interview will be archived at the UNC Asheville Ramsey Library Special Collections.

A ceremony in recognition of the selected Living Treasures will be held on Sunday, Oct 21, 2012 - location TBD. During the ceremony, families and friends of the Treasures are invited to share stories and reminiscences of the elders with the gathered community. Each Asheville Living Treasure will receive a certificate signifying they are Treasures along with recognition from both the City of Asheville and Buncombe County.

Nominations for elders 70 years of age and older that have a history of service to the community can be submitted three ways. A nomination can be submitted online at http://www.ashevillelivingtreasures.com/nominations.html and letters of nomination may be sent by email to ashevillelivingtreasures@gmail.com or sent by regular mail to Asheville Living Treasures, att: M. Walsh - 38 Indian Falls Rd – Asheville, NC 28803.

The general public is encouraged to participate. If you know an elder that has helped make our community a better place to live, please do not hesitate to nominate them. Though the number of nominations will not determine the three Living Treasures selected, the more nominations each person gets, the better portrait the Selection Committee will have to work with.
