Progressive group targets Moffitt, launches petition drive
The liberal advocacy organization Progress North Carolina Action held an event this morning, Sept. 27, at the Biltmore Park Town Square and launched a website attacking Republican Statehouse Rep. Tim Moffitt over tax cuts and education spending. Organizers also plan to attend a noon candidate forum at Magnolia's in downtown Asheville hosted by the Council of Independent Business Owners. Moffitt and his Democratic opponent Jane Whilden in District 116 are both planning to attend, as well as District 115 candidates Nathan Ramsey (R) and Susan Wilson (D). Here's the info via the group's press release:

Politicians Gain, Schools Lose Tour comes to Asheville

Rep. Tim Moffitt voted for a tax loophole for wealthy lawyers, lobbyists and millionaires that cost the state $336 million a year, while cutting public education to the bone. Did Rep. Moffitt profit from the loophole too?

Progress NC Action wants answers. The "Politicians Gain, Schools Lose Tour" is promoting a petition calling on Rep. Moffitt to come clean and pledge to end the loophole. You can find the petition at http://www.MoffittGainsSchoolsLose.com.
