Mark Meadows chooses party elite over people of WNC
Skips Congressional forum to attend political rally out-of-district
Brasstown NC – With just 26 days to go until Election Day, Mark Meadows will be skipping his only opportunity to face the people of Cherokee County in order to attend a political pep rally today with Washington politicians in another Congressional District.
“It's obvious that Mr. Meadows prefers to hobnob with celebrities and the political elite rather than mingle with regular mountain folks across Western North Carolina,” said Hayden Rogers. “He made that clear when he chose to skip his own Congressional forum today and when he chose to go back home to Florida for the Republican National Convention. He can't help it; he's just not one of us.”
Rogers and Meadows were both invited weeks ago to participate in a nonpartisan Congressional forum tonight, Thursday, October 11th at the Cherokee County Courthouse in Murphy. The forum will feature candidates for state and federal offices. Meadows will be sending a “written statement” in an attempt to compensate for his absence.
“The people of Western North Carolina deserve to have a representative in Congress who will show up and be accountable,” said Rogers. “If Mr. Meadows’ focus is already on pleasing party leadership instead of meeting with voters in our rural communities, how can we expect him to think for himself and put the people first if he's in Congress?”
