Last week, after brewery owner Ken Grossman and his son, Brian, announced the company had chosen Ferncliff Industrial Park in Mills River for its expansion, Henderson County officials said they have accommodated the nation's second-largest microbrewery by providing a site that satisfies needed infrastructure without overburdening natural resources.
"Our East Coast brewery will be built with a sustainable and mindful approach and maintain the integrity of the property and beauty of the natural landscape," Ken Grossman wrote on his company's website last week. ...
Sierra Nevada ... will have water for its operations coming from the City of Asheville's water system [perhaps] about 77,000 gallons of water a day ... Henderson County Manager Steve Wyatt added that a test well has been drilled on-site as well, "so you also have the potential, basically, to receive pristine ground water in (Sierra Nevada's) process."
Wastewater coming from Sierra Nevada's operations, meanwhile, will be handled by the nearby Metropolitan Sewerage District in southern Buncombe County ...<
