UNC-TV revises programming schedule for GOP National Convention
PRESS RELEASE

The rescheduling of the Republican National Convention program in Tampa in response to the effects of Tropical Storm Isaac make it necessary for UNC-TV to revise the evening program schedules on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week on both UNC-TV and sister channel UNC-EX.

The Republican Convention will not meet tonight, which will result in the schedule for each of the three remaining nights of the convention to be extended by one hour. So, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the PBS live coverage of the convention will begin at 7:00 p.m. and run through 11:00 p.m. on UNC-TV, immediately following the PBS NewsHour and pre-empting Nightly Business Report and North Carolina Now. As a result, for those three nights, Nightly Business Report will be broadcast in its usual 7:00 p.m. time slot on UNC-EX, the Explorer Channel. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, North Carolina Now will be broadcast in its usual 7:30 p.m. time slot on UNC-EX. On Thursday, North Carolina Weekend, which is normally broadcast on Thursday nights at 9:00, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on UNC-EX, and there will be no broadcast of North Carolina Now that night.

In addition to the coverage provided by PBS, UNC-TV will be airing WRAL-TV reports from the convention on North Carolina Now.

The programs that are regularly scheduled on UNC-EX in the 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. time slots -- Rick Steves' Europe and Smart Travels - Europe with Rudy Maxa -- will not be seen on Tuesday through Thursday this week.

UNC-TV provides people of all ages with enriching, life-changing television through its distinctive array of programs and services, including four digital channels: flagship UNC-TV; UNC-EX The Explorer Channel; UNC-KD The Kids Channel; and UNC-MX The Eclectic Mix Channel (available on digital cable only). UNC-TV’s 12 stations comprise North Carolina’s only statewide television network, made possible through a unique partnership of public investment and private support. UNC-TV is committed to producing, broadcasting and sharing content for and about North Carolina, making it the state’s most important source of information about North Carolina.
