Saturday, October 12, the 30th Annual Mountain Glory Festival will celebrate the arrival of autumn in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The festival covers the courthouse lawn and three blocks of Main Street in Marion. Browsers and shoppers looking for original handicrafts or homespun enjoyment will find plenty of choices among more than 125 artists, crafters and food booths and a wide variety of entertainment. Traditional bluegrass, southern gospel and haunting melodies Native American music, there is music for everyone.
Besides mainstays of music and craft, the festival offers glimpses into local and regional pastimes. The Mountain Glory Quilt Show will be open all month with demonstrations and a bed turning on festival day. Watch apple butter being made and the hit-n-miss engine making ice cream.
One of the most popular areas at the festival each year is the “Children’s Area”, that provides hands-on activities, a best-dressed pet show and activities for kids.
The festival offers a wide array of arts and crafts. Featured this year is a great selection of custom made jewelry, pottery, fabric and knitted bags, hats, scarves and delightful yard art. Great shopping opportunities for Christmas!!! Free shuttle serve to and from McDowell Senior Center.
