Representing community voices in both music and talk programming, AshevilleFM.org features forty, locally-produced, weekly programs with a global reach. Listeners from all over the country, and the world, tune in to AshevilleFM.org every day to experience the culture that is uniquely Asheville.
With such great support from a world of listeners, Asheville Free Media has made the decision to take the next bold step: we’re going on air! We are applying for an LPFM broadcast license this fall. If we’re successful in our efforts, we will begin broadcasting from high atop an Asheville tower, making our signal easily accessible so we can better serve the local population, bringing the local economy of ideas to the forefront of the airwaves in Asheville!
With four successful years behind us, and a future of broadcasting excellence ahead, what better time for a party? Friday, September 13th will be an evening of family fun at the Odditorium from 5-8pm. Fun activities include a Cakewalk, Record Toss, Palm Reading, Photo Booth and more! Asheville Free Media’s Four-Year Freakshow will include a cover song contest with prizes for Best in Costume, Best in Song, and Best in Show. The winner of the Best in Show contest will be awarded a spot on the AshevilleFM.org Stage at Big Love on Sunday, September 15th.
This will be a great opportunity to meet the volunteers at Asheville Free Media, and to visit with your favorite AFM program hosts when they’re not busy in the studio! We will present a new crop of AFM t-shirts for sale, including a brand-new, limited edition LPFM Application shirt. Asheville Free Media’s Four-Year Freakshow will be a great way to support community radio in Asheville and have some fun while meeting a very unique group of fun neighbors. C’mon down to The Odditorium, in West Asheville, on Friday the 13th, and bring your ghoulfriend for a good time!
