), an annual publication by East Carolina University and the North Carolina Literary & Historical Association, holds a party for its new issue at Malaprop's on Saturday, Aug. 31. The event begins at 3 p.m. and is open to the public.

North Carolina Literary Review Fiction Editor Liza Wieland will read from her short story "Quickening;" Leah Hampton reads from her Doris Betts Fiction Prize-winning short story, which is in the 2013 issue; LAURENCE AVERY reading his 2nd place Applewhite prize poem "Yonaguska'" Charles Frazier speaks on different literary depictions of Yonaguska and reads a passage featuring Bear, from his novel "Thirteen Moons;" and Annie Frazier reads from her short story "Sakura," one of two Betts Prize finalists forthcoming in the 2014 issue.
