“Colleen has gone a new direction with this series now that her life centers more on Asheville’s downtown,” says Grand Bohemian Gallery director, Constance Richards. “Her first trip to Paris also influenced her direction to capture these exquisite interiors from the outside in, as day turns to night and as the heart of the city turns from the business day to gatherings with friends and family over food and fun.”
With her soft palette and painterly depictions of downtown interiors, Webster captured the abundant riches of our downtown’s gathering places – local restaurants and cafes – and the life that plays out within their walls. The artist’s first trip to Europe this fall – specifically Paris – further inspired her on this journey of capturing life well-lived.
“The cafe scene is a part of normal life – sitting to eat, drink wine, enjoy the outside to gather with friends to people watch and enjoy the day,” observes Webster. “Asheville is a place where people, too, enjoy life and celebrate it with food, art, music, drink and coming together with others.”
“These paintings are an interpretation and reflection of that.”
