ECO announces Sustainable Living workshops for early 2013, starts Wednesday, Jan. 23
from then Environmental & Conservation Organization, Hendersonville, N.C.
ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization’s Green Energy and Sustainability Committee will host a series of interesting, informative and hands-on workshops this year to help local residents learn to become more productive food growers, cut their energy footprint, and become more self-sufficient. The workshops will focus on helping local residents use environmentally sound methods to live better lives and develop closer connections to their world. Each workshop will be taught by a trained specialist.
The first Sustainable Living Workshop of the year will be about Winter Vegetable Gardening hosted by Bullington Gardens Director, John Murphy on Wednesday, January 23rd at 4PM. It may be January but it is not too early to start thinking about growing salad and vegetable items in your own garden. John Murphy is a teacher and horticulturalist who has been at Bullington since 1999.
This workshop will teach students the types of vegetables that can be grown this time of year and ways to keep these plants protected during particularly cold periods. Seeds can be put in the ground now for lettuce. Cauliflower and broccoli can be started soon. Come and get your questions answered. Learn what materials you should select for row covers that can extend the growing season in both spring and fall.
All workshops including this one require advance registration since they tend to sell out. There is a $15 registration fee per attendee per workshop that can be paid online at http://www.eco-wnc.org
or contact ECO at 828-692-0385.
