ASHEVILLE, N.C. (May 9, 2013) – Mission Foundation today announced the upcoming Friends of Mission Charity Classic will raise funds for Women’s Health, the Center of Excellence at Mission Health that provides comprehensive care and support services to women throughout western North Carolina.
The six-day Friends of Mission Charity Classic golf tournament at the Country Club of Asheville, May 14-19, culminates with a three-day, 54-hole competition with at $100,000 cash purse and features 144 of the world’s best female golfers on the Symetra Tour, the official road to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). Four of the ladies competing in the pro tournament are also contestants in the current season of the Golf Channel’s “The Big Break” reality television show, which premiers on May 12. In addition to the pro tournament, the week is packed full with a variety of activities that include junior clinics and Pro Am tournaments.
“Women present with unique healthcare needs that often require specialized care and treatment,” said Susan Mims, M.D., vice president of Women’s and Children’s Services and medical director at Mission Children’s Hospital. “The tournament is a tremendous avenue for us to fund important outreach programs for women across the region. All tournament ticket-holders will help provide critical services that help keep women healthy throughout all stages of life.”
One-day tickets, three-day passes and clubhouse upgrades are available online at missioncharityclassic.org, at the Country Club of Asheville and at the Asheville Gift Shop at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. Event parking will be available Fri., May 17 through Sun., May 19 at Newbridge Baptist Church at 199 Elkwood Drive with complimentary shuttles to the Country Club of Asheville golf course.
