"NORTHERN EXPOSURE: ALASKA’S PEOPLE AND PLEASURES,” PRESENTED BY HENDERSONVILLE SISTER CITIES AUGUST 28
(HENDERSONVILLE, NC, August 14, 2013) – On Wednesday, August 28, a program on Alaska will be hosted by Hendersonville Sister Cities at the Henderson County Public Library auditorium, 301 N. Washington St., 6 to 7:30 p.m. “Northern Exposure: Alaska’s People and Pleasures” will be presented through photos and personal vignettes by Penny Paxton. The program is open to the public at no charge.
Ms. Paxton has been in the travel industry for over 33 years, working with tour companies, airlines, and cruise lines and has escorted groups all over the world. She is currently with Celebrity Cruises, which sails to Alaska and the Canadian Rockies. In her travels, she has seen much of the Great North State and visited with local people. This legendary land of breathtaking scenery also has strong Russian heritage, and the storied 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog race is a sacred rite to mushers from around the world. How can one best experience this unique Land of the Midnight Sun, Northern Lights, and humongous cabbages? Ms. Paxton will explain.
Hendersonville Sister Cities is a nonprofit organization formed in 2007 to foster and celebrate international cooperation and understanding and local economic growth through education, exploration of other cultures, travel, and social interaction. Almuñécar, Spain, is Hendersonville’s Sister City.
Hendersonville Sister Cities also hosts educational and cultural programs and international dinners. The organization is a member of Sister Cities International, a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network seeking stronger economic and cultural ties at the municipal level between U.S. and international communities.
