"Inside - Out" debuts new works by Stuart Roper – still-lifes and plein air masterpieces. This year especially, with near record rainfall, Stuart Roper was hampered on numerous occasions to head outdoors to work, so the alternative was his studio. There, Roper often will use his plein air studies and other reference notes as a jumping off point for a more complex landscape painting. Collected objects and favorite ephemera make their way into his still-lifes to create a fresh composition.
Earlier in September, Roper was painting on the coast of Maine, in the Boothbay Harbor region, as well as Monhegan Island, an iconic location that has been a pilgrimage for artists for decades.
Stuart was also accepted into this year's 14th Annual National Juried Exhibition of The American Impressionist Society, which opened October 3rd in Charleston, South Carolina and earlier this year, his painting "Curiosity", a portrait of a burro, was accepted into the 2013 Salon International which was held in San Antonio, Texas.
Stuart is currently a member of The Oil Painters of America, The Plein Air Painters Of The Southeast, The American Impressionist Society, The California Plein Air Painters, International Plein Air Painters, Laguna Plein Air Painters and also the Western North Carolina Plein Air Painters.
