Dear Friends,

You know the silly season has arrived when the President repeatedly tells Congressional leaders that we have no spending problem, while negotiating a plan to get out from under the debt created by our spending problem. According to reports in the Wall Street Journal this week, that’s exactly what happened.

Meanwhile, the President’s liberal allies in Congress readily admit that we have to fix our debt, but they’ve come up with a solution to take care of it. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) has actually suggested giving the federal government authority to mint a single, trillion dollar coin that would be used to pay down our debt. Sounds like the kind of idea that could only come from Washington, right?

While it may be silly season in the Capitol, you and I know better. Getting out of debt isn’t easy, but it isn’t rocket science either. Cut spending, pay down your debt as quick as possible, and do what you can to alleviate the problem by earning more income. That’s exactly what I’ve proposed in the House of Representatives. In the last Congress, I voted to cut spending and balance the budget. Doing so would stabilize our economy by providing much needed certainty for families and small businesses.

I’ll continue to fight for those same principles, and leave the magical coins to someone else.
