Need to winterproof your home? ECO offers Wednesday, Feb. 13, workshop in Hendersonville
from ECO (Environmental and Conservation Organization - Hendersonville)
(HENDERSONVILLE, NC, February 4, 2013) – ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization’s Green Energy and Sustainability Committee will host a new Sustainable Living Workshop titled “Winterproofing Your Home” led by Rick Bayless, a home energy and home health expert and instructor at Blue Ridge Community College. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30 at the Hendersonville Girl Scout Hut.
This workshop offers participants a do-it-yourself energy savings experience which is completely hands-on. The workshop will be helping the Girls Scouts make their hut energy efficient, while teaching you the skills you need to help you save energy in your home. Participants will learn to use expanding insulation foam, install foam board, learn to seal ducts, learn to utilize other energy efficiency materials, learn how to find leaks in your house, learn how to find cold air drafts in your house, and learn how to make an air draft box for lighting fixtures.
According to Bayless, “This workshop is designed to help attendees learn to winterproof their home by themselves. Everyday I see clients’ homes and we find simple projects waiting to be done. If they just knew what the issues were and knew how to fix them, and what materials to use, they could have been saving hundreds of dollars on their energy bill, stop their cold drafts, lower energy bills, improve home air quality, lower their energy footprint and improve their home’s value. A common comment I get from homeowners is, ‘I could have done this five years ago if I only knew!” No prior experience is needed to participate.
This workshop requires advance registration and is expected to sell out. There is a $15 registration fee per attendee per workshop that can be paid online at http://www.eco-wnc.org
