Short Street Cakes hosts 4th anniversary Mardi Gras party and benefit raffle Feb. 12

Asheville, NC, January 25, 2013: Short Street Cakes, Asheville’s source for all-natural, scratch-made, southern-style birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and cupcakes, announces its Fourth Birthday Mardi Gras Party on Fat Tuesday, February 12st, from 5-8pm at 225 Haywood Road in West Asheville. Featuring live music, Mardi Gras beads, beer, wine, Troy & Sons Moonshine Cake Shop signature cocktails by Miss Glo, Handmade King Cake and a beautiful birthday cake to share, the Mardi Gras party will be an opportunity for the Cake Shop to thank the community for four wonderfully successful years in their current location. Short Street Cakes will also be launching its brand new 2013 menu, which includes more than 10 new cake flavors. The highlight of the evening will be a raffle to benefit Hall Fletcher Elementary’s School Garden.
The many exciting raffle items showcase the support and generosity of the immediate East-West Asheville neighborhood, and include gift certificates and items from neighborhood businesses including Bookworks, Hot Stuff Tattoo, The Admiral, The WALK, Harvest Records, Bari Salon, Point Health Collective, Second Gear, the Gas Up, Flora, Small Terrain, the Double Crown, the B&B Pharmacy, Battlecat Coffee/Hanks BBQ, Short Street Cakes, and many others. Raffle tickets are $5 each and are available at Harvest Records, Hall Fletcher Elementary, and Short Street Cakes. All raffle proceeds go to benefit Hall Fletcher’s School Garden. Participants do not need to be present at the raffle to win.
Hall Fletcher Elementary is East-West Asheville’s neighborhood public elementary school. The Hall Fletcher Elementary School Garden is a space where students thrive and grow. Through scientific, mathematic and language art experiential education, HFE’s garden fosters a passion for local food, fosters excitement towards preserving the natural beauty of the Southern Appalachian area, and encourages a healthy and vibrant community. The funds raised through Short Street Cakes’ raffle will support their newly themed garden beds, such as Native American Crops, Plants Native to Western North Carolina, Plant a Row for the Hungry, and the Featured International Crop. The community’s generosity will allow HFE’s students the opportunity to better connect the both their curriculum and their community.
Short Street Cakes will also be featuring its Valentine’s Day Cake Specials, such as Heart Shaped Cakes, Message Cupcakes, and Sweethearts and Broken Hearts. Short Street Cakes is again offering the Valentine’s Sweetheart Cake Special: a 4” miniature cake, a handmade paper flower, a handmade “you are loved” magnet, a personalized message on a handmade Valentine Card, all crafted by local artist Hannah Dansie. The Sweetheart Cake is $25 and includes delivery to 28801 and 28806. Call (828) 505-4822 at least two days in advance to schedule Sweetheart Cake delivery.
Handmade, all-natural, traditional Southern King Cakes, complete with a baby trinket hidden inside, are also available at the Cake Shop and other select locations through Mardi Gras, February 12th. The cost is $25 for a Medium sized cake (serves 15) and $48 for a large (serves 30).
