Toubab Krewe asks for help greening ‘Greenie’
Famed local band Toubab Krewe has named their tour bus, "Greenie." Now, the group is asking fans to vote for them in a contest sponsored by Brita to "green Greenie" by converting the vehicle to biodiesal and adding solar panels for electricity. If they win the most votes in the online contest, Brita will give the band $4,500 for the green improvements, as well as a number of other related awards such as a consultation on local food sourcing.

Here's an excerpt from the band's appeal on the Brita contest website:

How would you use the green tour grant to make your tour green and reduce bottled water waste?

Our band Toubab Krewe tours constantly. We own a green 1995 Silver Eagle 45 ft tour bus. Given the resources we could transform our mobile home into an eco-friendly residence. We would convert our engine to bio-diesel and in-stall a solar panel to power our outlets. We could install a water tank that we would perpetually refill with tap water and Brita filter in each city. We host hundreds of guests each year on our bus at festivals and theater shows alike. This bus transformation would help us become the ambassadors of sustainable and Green living that we aspire to.

How do you encourage your fans to take on more sustainable habits?

We will document the entire transformation of our bus. Our fans will see the whole process and be encouraged to help guide us to further our changing modes of sustainability. Video, photo, and blog updates on all of our social media resources will be our primary method of interacting with our fan base though we will be able to host special open house events for our fans to see how we are greening our living/work environment and experience the excitement of the process with us.
