There was a Little Green Trolley that couldn’t (because it needed a new engine), but that’s about to change. There will be a Save our Trolley benefit dinner to buy a new engine for The Trolley Company’s or should I say Hendersonville’s Little Green Trolley so it can live on for many years to come. The benefit will take place from 6 PM to 10:30 PM, Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at Two Guys Pizza & Ribs located at Church & Barnwell in Historic Downtown Hendersonville, North Carolina.
The event includes a fabulous spaghetti dinner and the music of the Robert Morris Band. Tickets are $15 per person. There will also be a silent auction as part of the festivities. Tickets are available at Mia’s Antiques, Vermontage and Once Upon a Sign. For additional information please call (828) 606-8606.
The trolley was brought to Hendersonville in 2009 as a non profit pilot project. Three women—Eva Ritchey, Shirley Palmer Hill, and Verna Shipman—formed a committee to promote the trolley idea. The recession of 2009 had hit Downtown hard and they thought perhaps this new attraction might help to revive the spirit and economic vitality of downtown. With its unique look and clangy bell, it has become a member of the community. The trolley has taken many brides to the church on time, been a parade vehicle for Life Source, skipped along to Asheville as the baseball trolley, been the wheels to The Historic Hendersonville Tour and contributed to non profit events.
It is a fun and valuable resource to the community. It is a rolling community. If we lose the trolley we will lose not only the events it supports but also the charm it lends to Hendersonville. The trolley is good for Hendersonville. Clang. Clang.
