Bruisin’ Ales is introducing more sophisticated suds to the ballpark this summer, with a series of three pre-game events at Asheville’s McCormick Field designed to spotlight high-end beers. The program begins with a “Pop the Cap” celebration on June 27, featuring North Carolina brews and hors d’oeuvres, reconvenes Aug. 15 for a Beer 101 workshop and concludes on Aug. 29 with a five-course Brewery Ommegang dinner. The Jamaican restaurant One Love II opened its doors this week. The restaurant is located in downtown Asheville, in the Market Street building that housed the soul-food eatery The Ritz since 1942. That restaurant held its last lunch buffet on Valentine’s Day.

Now the new restaurant boasts a menu of traditional Jamaican dishes like curried goat and jerk chicken. This is the second incarnation of the One Love restaurant. This first is located in Hendersonville. One Love II is open every day but Monday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the exception of Friday, when the eatery is open until 11 p.m.

Slow Food WNC will host a potluck fundraiser featuring spring foods produced within 100 miles of Asheville on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m. at the Hawk and Ivy Bed and Breakfast in Barnardsville (133 North Fork Road). Suggested donations to attend the event, which will also include beer, wine and live music, are $5 to $30; the funds will support farmers participating in the Mountain Farm Tour, scheduled for June 28 and 29.

Nine Mile is readying to debut in the former Pyper’s Place at 233 Montford Ave. in Asheville. The restaurant, which is aiming to open by the end of the month, plans to serve moderately priced Caribbean pastas.
