Reuter Center Singers is an intergenerational, non-audition community chorus, and one of the performance groups of the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement. It practices in the Reuter Center at UNCA on Mondays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. The RCS offers performances in the spring and the fall at the Reuter Center, and during the year at local venues such as the Biltmore Estate, Deerfield Retirement Community, Givens Estates and others. During the fall of 2007, the RCS collaborated with UNCA’s University Singers and a youth chorus, Voices in the Laurel, in a chorus totaling 120 voices, to present Carl Orff’s choral masterpiece “Carmina Burana” to rave reviews. The RCS also offers choral performance classes within the NCCCR’s College for Seniors.
The RCS, directed by Chuck Taft and accompanied by Nora Vetro, welcomes singers of all adult ages, and currently has members who range in age from mid-20s to mid-80s. The only singer qualification required is the desire to practice, learn and perform classical, popular show tunes and other favorites in a choral setting. As longtime member Carl Peterson says, “We are a chorus of friends who love to sing and to socialize and we are proud of our growth in size and quality under the direction of Chuck Taft.”
Membership in the RCS is $40 per year, and includes the broad array of program and activity benefits of NCCCR membership. A small music-use fee is payable for each of the spring and fall semesters.
