Asheville New Friends was founded in 1978 and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The club welcomes residents of Asheville and the surrounding communities. With more than 370 members, ANF is an opportunity for both singles and couples to make new friends. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from September through May, and many of them include a local speaker or entertainment.
The club also offers an annual picnic, potluck dinners, holiday parties, interest groups and other social events. If you are a hiker, walker or golfer, you may want to participate in a corresponding interest group. There are bridge groups for men, women and couples; in-home evening potluck dinners and potluck luncheons for women; a travel group; a book club; an investment group; dining-out groups; and various card groups including a mahjong group, and pinochle and poker groups. All of these exist due to members who volunteer to make the groups happen. As President Gloria Dastoli states, “No volunteer organization can continue unless its members are willing to step forward and volunteer their time and commitment.” Members are kept up-to-date on the club’s activities via a monthly newsletter.
