Bauer narrates the troubled story of his Uncle Arnie, who’s competing to become the top-ranked Russian Roulette player in the country. In the event finals, where Arnie lifts the pistol against Crazy Joe from Tobacco Road, the “reality show” craze meets its match. “Imagine prisoners that have spent their entire lives chained deep inside a cave. They have been chained so that they cannot see behind themselves [and are] forced to stare endlessly at the wall in front of them. Behind them a fire is burning …” So begins The Cave: An Adaptation of Plato’s Allegory in Clay. This Bullhead Entertainment film offers a commentary on the human condition, as the prisoners’ only experience of life comes through viewing the shadows on the wall. First-place winner of the 2008 USA Film Festival Short Film and Video Competition.
