I’m thinking about joining a local writers’ group. Can anyone recommend a good one or steer me away from a bad one?

I am actually looking for one also. I’m working on a young adult novel as we speak.

Why yes I have a blog. What? You want to see my underwear? That’s over the line, sir.

Well, maybe we should start one? In our spare time?

I’m not allowed within 500 feet of Alli Marshall by order of law.

But seriously, I’d be down.

Sounds fun. I need to expand my brain trust.

Just as long as we don’t meet on Thursday nights--that’s my writing night, and I don’t mess with it--even for other writers.

How about Sunday afternoons? Football season’s almost over. I can manage.

I’m interested.  I have become too visually oriented and can barely speak/write.

Just so everyone’s clear, I’m not starting a writer’s group. My post was actually a test of this system ... looks like it works! And it looks like a group might be just the thing. Someone (not me) really should start one.

I’d like to start one, although I’ve no interest in being any sort of leader coordinator. Also, if we could find one more misogynist pig like myself to join, that’d be great.

Good point Jason.  Why not call our group the Alli Marshall Writer’s Club?  :D

I might be interested, too. I’m a cartoonist, but graphic novels involve a lot more writing than one might expect. :)

I fancy myself a comic writer, also. My problem is that I can’t find anyone doing the ultra clean, super hero style that I envision. So prose it is.

That’s my other thing. It’s Flashdance meets Predator meets the L Word. It’s sort of an ode to Jennifer Beals and all the magic she conveys.

Alli,
I’m aware of one writer’s group that meets at B&N;and another that meets at Malaprop’s. Both monthly. I don’t know much about either group, except the B&N;one seems a bit, well, older. Not that that’s bad.

I personally am looking for other writers who have some experience, but who are open to guidance and lively critiquing. I also like people who aren’t afraid to tell me when something sucks.

I’ve been involved with writers’ groups in the past (not around here) where one or two of the members were such poor writers and so needy that the rest of the group spent all its time trying to make jewelry from trash.

i’d like to attend some readings (i don’t want to critique other’s work nor have mine critiqued ... “good” writing is simply too subjective) ... are there any open mic READING series going in the area that can be recommended?
