Wow I just have to chime in for a second about the dismissal of Kurt Cobain’s art earlier up there.
I can only speak for myself, but I think Kurt Cobain would clearly have continued his evolution as one of the greatest modern musical artists of the day--much more so than much of the inane indie rock drivel I see so many little scenesters around here so enamored of.
Cobain was a legend in his own time. He was an amazing lyricist, and his ability to craft pop songs was in the same conversation as Lennon and McCartney.
Look at what some of Cobain’s contemporaries are doing now.
Vedder and company in Pearl Jam, in full form at the biggest concert in America.
The Melvins, well into their fourties, continuing to release new albums.
Do you seriously doubt what wonders he might have wrought?
The song in my head all day is ‘Heart Shaped Box’------------
‘Hey, wait, I’ve got a new complaint---
Forever in debt to your priceless advice.....’
so ironic
