The Xpress has more soccer fans than baseball of football. This makes me a sad panda.

The Pandas are a soccer team?

I can see it now!

Announcer: Paoli Panda takes the ball from Luigi Panda. He bounces it on his head. He waddles down the field. He kicks!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Nothing about that to be sad about, the Pandas are leading 1-0.

Not to slight your passion, but baseball is one of those games I don’t mind playing (well, softball, at least), but is dead boring to watch. I’d rather watch professional curling (it’s like shuffleboard mixed with sweeping!). The only exception to this is watching a game live, but that’s because crowds of inebriated and passionate people tend to make anything more interesting.

At least in soccer, you get to watch all the players pretend to be seriously hurt after a minor collision in an effort to buy themselves a little time to catch their breath.

Footy (aka soccer) is an amazing sport to watch, especially when you watch the european teams with a good european crowd.  the passion they have for the game over there is incredible to me.  the “acting” is getting a little ridiculous as you stated steve....which hurts the sport.

but nothing beats college basketball.

oh what are we predicting?

Revolu: I’m not sure, actually. Maybe how well our local baseball team, the Asheville Tourists, will do this year. I predict they will go all the way, although I have no idea what that means for a minor league team. Still, I’d like to go on record that I’m predicting they’ll go where ever that is. Maybe twice.

I’m a fan of college sports more than pro. I have no interest in soccer, but will watch the World Cup. I enjoy baseball (playing it, watching it live, and watching MY team on TV) and curling. I prefer the Winter Olympics over the Summer games.

Nothing really tops March Madness or the College Bowl season.

PLAYOFF NOW! in college football.

Michigan can suck on it.

At the risk of seeming like a know-nothing pansy boy who never played sports lest he break his precious glasses (which is pretty much the case), what are our local sports teams? The Tourists ... sure. There’s also that all-women football team, right?

Someone, explain it all to me.

Let’s start with something simple. What are the names of all the high school football teams? If you’re up to it, maybe tell me about their coaches, star players and whatnot.

Or, maybe start another thread that does this.

I told you this forum would be the least used. The Xpress’ demographic are more partial to cribbage than baseball.

Are you kidding? I’m still getting over my last cribbage injury.

I’m not talking about Crib death, I’m talking about the card game.

Wait a minute the Tourists had that awesome come from behind game last week .... full of action .... and the girl watching was very good ...

of course it doesn’t compare to the thrill of watching your buddy sitting in the stink hole while you peg out with the knob

Someone please explain this to me. I mean, it can’t possibly be as dirty as it sounds.

you thought cribbage was boring ...

I haven’t played in 20 years, but as I recall

the last hole before you peg out is called the stink hole ...

and when you are the dealer and you trun over a jack you move one peg forward for the knob ...

this is a sailors game and sounds raunchy ...  is it wrong to have just thought about a brilliant idea ... just have two girls playing cribbage and saying it out loud as a 900 phone line

I’ve always been partial to NCAA men’s basketball and MLB, having played both sports through high school.  However, my fondness of soccer is growing, given the fact that my fiancée, Ludmila, is Brazilian.  More specifically, she’s from the state of Minas Gerais, a birthplace shared by Edison Arantes do Nascimento, or Pelé, as you’ll probably recognize him.  Needless to say, it’s more than a religion there; the aura emanating from it is so thick that it nearly saturates you.  Conversion is inevitable.

I tell Lud that it’s all geographically and anatomically relative.  “We Americans to the north prefer to use our hands and you Americans to the south prefer to use your feet,” I joke.
