The very same. There’s something about the simplicity of the game that, even today, makes it a delight to play.
Keeping with football, I was also a fan of the ESPN 2k series. 2k5 was a great game, and I was severely disappointed when the NFL signed a exclusivity contract with EA Sports, the makers of the Madden series.
Although there are some very admirable things about EA’s presentation, most of their sports games are a bit too sim-y for my taste. I realize that there are some real sports geeks out there who would just love to experience the thrill of being a team manager for 20 digital years, but that’s just not what I’m looking for. I want to be able to pick up a controller and play some sports.
I guess I’m a MarioKart, rather an NASCAR, kind of gamer at heart.
