Today I read this on Wikipedia about “Life Goes On” star Chris Burke:
In a published interview dated October 7, 1992, Burke told People Magazine: “I don’t mind black people, except when they come close. They scare me. You can’t tell what they’re feeling because their faces are dark.” In an effort to mitigate the damage, producers introduced a black girlfriend for Corky, played by Down syndrome actress Patricia Marks. Burke, however, refused to play his role, and producers quickly withdrew the character. The following season, a white actress was hired to portray Corky’s girlfriend, and the two characters married during the final season of “Life Goes On”.
My girlfriend was horrified that he said it, and said that she hopes he gets some help with it. I responded to her that Burke’s wild racism was the least of his troubles.
I then laughed as she told me I was going to hell.
