Writers groups are fine and I have participated in several over the years and am not adverse to doing so again.

However I can tell you, the BEST writers group is just yourself. If you want to write and be successful, sit your fundament in the chair and write every day.

I know many successful writers and have had a reasonably good career myself ... ALL the writers I know work alone and consistently and FINISH things. That’s how it’s done.

That’s good for talented type-A writers Ralph, but I’m looking to achieve mediocrity - to learn the rules that, later in life, i will be too timid to break.  I’m hoping to garner false praise from supportive sympathants so i can feel good about my talent’s imagined evaporation.  I hope to recreate the formulaic prose i excelled at in high school and set a new standard of unremarkability for myself, believing that - if i so choose - i could probably get my nakedly autobiographical short stories published by one of the larger vanity presses.

And then not do it, because, well, you know.

heh, heh… one cannot argue with that Zen… one must have goals and sometimes even kick the soccerball of life through them.

so start an individual blog or jourmal.  You can do that with Blogspot...or liveJournal.....not sure if there free anymore...livejournal use to be.  You can also do it on MySpace and even categorize it under different topics and I think you can do it on that local MySpace style site. That started about a year ago or so.

If anyone on here is serious about starting a writing group, I’m game.  I’m working on a horror novel and I’m hesitant to post my work online for fear that someone will steal my concept.  I’d rather work with a smaller group face to face.

Nobody answered Lumina’s question about where are good spots for open mike with words.  Anyone?

So, did a group get started? I just moved up here from Central FL in June and I want to find a group. :)
